Ideas for Stendhal
List of Ideas and suggestions and quests for Arianne Stendhal
The use of that link can be for 'storage' before of real use
- We can type here all ideas all together and any developer who likes one or some he can pick(or better I)it up from here and he can ask me to post it on SF feature requests or wiki.
- We can put our thoughts here free with no conditions. Imagination needs to be free, not very controlled and limited with logic.
- A single idea here can demand a set of features, some brand new. So developers can take an idea and split it. Here is the cows. Developers are the butchers who cut the cow in parts(as Miguel said hehe). I raise the cow and I can be the butcher or other developers
- I like salads :-P
- Mostly this here is for having it as a place with our thoughts to not lost or forget them. It should be organised later as I said above
- When an idea, quest, suggestion, etc is done or been put in tools or completely done and it's in the game, it will be removed from here or altered
- When an idea, quest, suggestion, etc is not possible to do or everyone hates it it will be removed from here
Now the list. It will be in random order but I make it in order bit by bit on any new update: Most of ideas here is Bill G.'s way( :-P ). I take them from other MMORPs in a way I think it's appropriate for Stendhal Other ideas is very original or altered in a new way and some are 'crasy' or dareful ideas
Party
You can create a party and invite in your party your friends. Players as long as they belong in this party(party leader can kick out someone or when party leader quits, party is over)they can chat each other and only party members can read or talk there. But you should also choose good party like this: have in your party a mage or Necromancer(dark priest), a thief, a kind of warrior, and a priest or bard. A kind of archer class can be usefull too. Warrior protects mages and priest by doing body-body combat while mage prepares his nasty spells and curses and priest does the healing. Party shares the XP and anyone can take the drops or even share them automatically. This is a good way to train your low level friends or guild members. Some details: priest is veryvery usefull when battling party goes fight undeads. Holy priest is extremely effective against unholy creatures like the undeads. Necromancer maybe can do bad in the morale of party because of the evil dark unholy magic he uses and with the army of undeads he can create from dead creatures or invite some undeads to fight on party side. This can conflict with the holy priest and both(necromancer and priest)have less effective spells. So better -depents from the mission- choose only one from them to have in the party.
Danters points of party
Just a pointer id like to add for the party idea is this: "party leader can kick out someone or when party leader quits, party is over" it's good that the party leader can kick out players (sometimes annoying players or "ninja players" = players that steals all the good loot joins) but when the party leader leaves the party should not be over but another leader should be randomly choosend (or the oldest teammember exept the leader becomes leader instead) thus they can continue the party instead. Party leader status should also be able to be transferred to another player if the party leader wishes it.
A few commands that would be nice for party managment is: /invite <player> - anyone that is not in a party can use this command on all players that is not in another party, using this command creates a new party (if the player beeing invited accepts the invite) and the one issuing the /invite command becomes the leader. /leave - if the player is in a party he leaves it, making him awailable for new invites. /leadertransfer <player> - makes another player the party leader, the player must already be in the party for it to work.
Guard to bribe
This guard would make sure players who are too weak don't enter places that are dangerous. Like outside giant caves etc.
- NPC: "Beyond this door I'm not allowed to let anyone past, it is too dangerous"
- Player: 'task'
- NPC says nothing
- Player: 'job'
- NPC: "I am the doorkeeper. I am not supposed to let any human past, but perhaps you can make me an #offer."
- Player: 'offer'
- NPC: "A little #bribe could persuade me"
- Player: 'bribe'
- NPC: "A bribe of no money is no bribe! #Offer me something!"
- Player: 'bribe x' (x<200)
- NPC: "You think that amount will persuade me?! You can't get in!"
- Player: 'bribe x' (x>=200)
- NPC (moves aside so door is accessible): "I got your money but I don't guarantee your life if you enter"
I think thats a good idea, because a lot of noob-players are exploring the semos cave without knowing that there is a green dragon and a lot of giants inside. Either they die or they run away and bring the strong enemies right to the entrance. So if a noob-player, who knows where the strong enemies are, enter the cave, he/she will be killed immediately.
- I'm going to use it for one of the new zones but it can be reused. For the semos caves problem I've added one of those messages you get when you enter a zone for the first time, it should be enough to warn newbies. Though bad luck if a big creature had already been dragged there on the very first time they went in. Kymara
Church Services
The services will be Christian (Non Denominational)...
- To be honest we had a lot of trouble even just with the marriage quest. People don't want religion in a game. I strongly suggest not to put a named religion in, at all. A pseudo spirituality may be ok. Some people feel that having a nun and priest (names from christian conventions) being part of the marriage service is already a step too far. (Though we could make an alternative civil ceremony perhaps for those who don't want to go in something called a 'church') That's why having a temple not a church is a slightly better idea - it's a place of worship of *something* and not necessarily a particular God or god. - I know I will not get alot of users neccesarily... But like any church I will have a congregation... It has never been easy for me to be an E-Preacher anywhere... I don't expect it to be easy... All I want is a chance if no1 comes for the first 3 sundays... I will be fine with you removing the church... Serving Him... Alex
I will Quote Scriptures and Give Links to Bible Sites (I may promote my program (http://Dos-Bible.org))
I will not say anything opposing the direct word of GOD (the bible)...
The Service will be completely optional...
The Church I will design...
I will provide all materials (food, whatever is needed)
I will use any land the developers are willing to spare (for the door... Containing a map)
My In game name is “Priest”; Feel free to contact me…

King Midas Quest
Maybe have a quest that allows the player to convert iron into gold_bar somehow?
- Nice idea! Or extend that; convert hammer to golden_hammer, mace to golden_mace, iron_scale_armor to golden_armor, plate_shield to golden_shield ... since everything Midas touched turned to gold. Though it would need to be carefuly balanced so that the reward wasn't too great. Maybe Midas could be an actual NPC, and after doing a quest you meet him/he'll touch things for you, and you get the chance to turn one thing into gold. Kymara 03:05, 23 August 2007 (PDT)
States increasing potions
Maybe also speed. Would it be temporal (until next login, for x minutes) or permanent?

Upgrading Weapons
All those gems you get from the dragon are untill one quest useless. So why don't use them for upgrading your weapons??
- You can sell them to Ognir, but yes I like the upgrading idea too. My brother plays WoW and they can decorate their weapons there. We'd need images of every weapon with each possible jewel on it, though. That's what's putting me off at the moment. Other quests are planned that can use them, too. Kymara
Well, not every weapon. We could do so that only a subset of weapons is upgradable, at least in the beginning (this selection must also come from logic, for example it makes no sense to decorate an obsidian knife with obsidian, or even with any other gem; or, very unchiselled weapons like a club or a ugmash maybe arent a good fit for being gem-enanched); then, for each one of these selected weapons, we could draw the decorated version or just tweak the original pic by adding a glow or aura (green, blue, red) if it's easier and/or produces a better result. I think i will try to make some gfx for it and see what comes out. --Vesper 07:03, 14 October 2007 (PDT)
Alchemy and Crafting
For those of you who remember your days of playing runescape, this concept may come easy to you.
- Overview of Alchemy
The idea behind alchemy is simple. It is the creation of a new item from existing items. The common belief is that alchemy is limited to foraging for herbs and plants to make healing potions. Whereas alchemy can be used for much more.
- Example of alchemy 1
While scouting a new area, you come across a tree with moss growing on the side of it. Carefully you take a chunk of moss and place it in your backpack, then continuing along your path. After so long, it's now night time but the strive for adventure still burns in your soul! So you light a torch and continue on your way. A vicious group of goblins approaches you though and you're at a disadvantage at the size of their group. You hit the nearest goblin with your torch and light his clothing on fire in the process. With your great knowledge of alchemy, you take out the moss you gathered earlier and hurl it at the flame on the goblin which erupts violently, causing the goblin to take a massive amount of damage and the explosion catches another goblin on fire. This is called reaction alchemy. While not necessary creating a new item, it involves creating a reaction from different products. In this case, the different products were (fire) and (moss).
- Example of alchemy 2
After killing a caverat, you notice their teeth are quite acrid. They smell horribly of sewers. You inspect the corpse and remove their teeth. Taking out a bowl you crush them into a powder, adding water and a bit of poison ivy to the mixture you carefully pour the contents into a thin glass bottle. You successfully create a Bottle of Poisons. This can be thrown at an enemy only within melee range and doing so causes the enemy to become poisoned and deals 1*(player's atk) damage. This is called productive alchemy. You combine multiple components to produce a new component. In this case, the components were (water) (rat's teeth) and (poison ivy leaf). The result of this example was an offensive potion which causes damage. Other products can include:
- (Healing substances such as: a Healing Balm in which it grants a median healing effect between Food and Healing potions. i.e. Instead of a 1 HP per tick over 20 ticks from consuming Cheese or an immediate 50 HP from consuming a Small potion, the player can create a (insert name of new healing item) with nearby components from the world and heal himself for 10 HP per tick over 3 ticks)
- (Stimulating potions such as: a potion to increase Atk temporarily(used on an enemy or on the player)) -in real life, medicine has side effects. Be it drowsiness, fatigue, or vomiting. In game, potions like these will also have a side effect, giving them a useful purpose to apply them to enemies.
- (Degrading potions such as: a potion to decrease Atk temporarily(used on an enemy or on the player)) -in real life, medicine has side effects. Be it drowsiness, fatigue, or vomiting. In game, potions like these will also have a side effect, giving them a useful purpose to apply them to enemies.
- (Area of Effect potions such as: a potion that produces a smog around a certain area that decreases the chance to hit the player if thrown at an enemy)
- (Weapon enhancements such as: a poison that is applied to the tip of your blade, giving a chance to poison your opponent per swing)
- (Temporary adverse effects such as: a potion that places an enemy into a sleep state, allowing you to attack it freely or escape from it. Attacking causes a 25% chance to wake the monster from their sleep)
- (Additive components such as: an additive that is combined with a healing balm that has been already made. The new healing balm lasts longer. (For example; (insert name of new healing item as previously mentioned) will now heal 10 HP per tick over 4 ticks). Additive components will be raw and will not be acquired through combining components. They will be commonly found through foraging plants yet in adverse areas, causing you to travel awkward lengths to get to them for their added effects.)
- Overview of Crafting
This topic is wide and up for discussion, something I'll have to provide ideas for at a later time. --Val 06:11, 21 October 2007 (EST)
Put your name below and add your thoughts about your ideas. This is mostly a list which will be organised and splitted in tools
Marketplace
I got an idea to make a marketplace on an island, make on the main continent cheap teleports to it, and free teleports from it to semos. There would be many stalls to rent by paying some money to boss of marketplace (npc). Then you got a key to your stall. There will be many stalls with a different size, and they would be numbered. In every stall there'll be a NPC and a chest (size depending on the size of the stall) in which you can put items to sell and a blackboard on which you can write what are you selling and prices. The NPC should have a script, which will allow him to identify items in the chest and get prizes from the owner of the stall. Money got from sale should be put in the chest. Chest will have a script which allows it to sum up the same items on 1 slot in a chest (for example 2 shadow armors in 1 slot). Blackboard may be useless if NPCs will be capable of answering questions like "how much is shadow armor?"

Auction System
short description
Idea is based on a combination of in-game and external solutions. NPC is responsible for despositing and withdraving of items/cash. All bidding is done on a regular website.
NPC
- NPC responds to "deposit [amount] item_name" and "withdraw [amount] item_name" commands. He updates the database.
- when those commands are issued, items are either destroyed or created.
- Less important features:
- some method of binding in-game user to auction site user. I've come up with a rather elegant solution for my own game. User issues the command to some NPC (not necessarily this one) and is issued a token, which is valid for one use. Next, user provides that token on a website to prove it's him. The website connects to a game server and checks if the code is valid. Token is invalidated afterwards. It's useful in many scenarios - for example you want to create a website where people elect "player of the month", but need to make sure that your website's user really does have a char in stendhal (pair it with some xml stats and you could even require people to be lvl 50+ :) ).
website
- people can see their inventory
- people can place items on auction
- people can place bids on items
other stuff
Obviously there's much more to write about it (like "items have to be locked when they're placed on action, so that players can't withdraw them from the NPC).
pros
feel free to add any.
- it's rather easy to implement. I think I could design the DB and code the php frontend in my spare time. I don't know java, but NPC part seems to be easy.
cons
- person controlling the DB could potentially manipulate the DB (for example create items for himself). Two simple solutions come to my mind:
- trust the bastard.
- store NPC transactions in 2nd DB as well and check it when stuff is being withdrawed.
- as hendrik noted on #arrianne, external sites are prone to social attacks ("hey mate, please give me your password, I'll show you something cool").
muszek
I guess that's all. Mail me at muszek {[nospam AT]} gmail dot com .
- I would prefer a solution with works completely in game without website. Thinks to keep in mind:
- only one database, maintaining more than one is to much work and too error prone
- server crashes can cause 10 minute resets of some player status
- bidder has to have enough money and has to give it away on bidding to prevent him from using it differently before the auction ends.
- there is no infrastructure in php to access marauroa objects stored in the database (the hall of fame uses a workaround by storing the statistics :informations redundant in another table, but seems to be a bad idea for real data)

Tavern Boss
In the second floor of the tavern, there is a npc (tavern boss), which need you talk with another npc, I think that npc will live in the house of the entrance of dungeon to go to kobold city (in semos_mountain_n2). That's npc asks you to bring a few items to give something for the tavern boss (maybe a few armors, or other items, that's will be define). The tavern isn't implemented in the game, this cause that the tavern boss and the other npc are very separated.... News ideas are welcome.
