Stendhal Testing
Testing Stendhal is not only fun, it's also very important because it can solve problems before releases. If you find any problems or need help with testing please ask at #arianne. If you have found a bug, feel free to submit a report directly.
We have a dedicated test server on stendhalgame.org Port 32100. It is refreshed with new code and a new copy of the real database once a day. You can login with your normal account, if it is a least one day old.
You may need a test client. Please note that the test client will not update automatically.
Just save the stendhal-1.48.5.zip file, extract it into a new folder, then double click the stendhal-1.48.5.jar.
Tests specific to the next releases
You can use a 1.48 release client to logon to test server, but if you want to test the 1.48.5 client you can do so.
Client changes (for this change, you need the new client!)
Outfits
- Colour your outfit
- Test if the closing the dialog resets the selection
- Take a look at https://stendhalgame.org/?id=content/scripts/character&test=testdb&name=XXXX, replacing XXXX with your character name. Does your player image get coloured like your character in the actual game? (Notes: 1. log out before opening the page to ensure the website gets updated. 2. There are some differences in the colouring methods used in the game and the website, so the images are not necessarily identical, but they should look sufficiently similar).
Zone colouring
- Outside maps should get darker during the (server time) night. Check that it works, and that the night time and sunrise colours look reasonable. Note that the nights are fairly short (7 hours from start of sunset to the end of sunrise).
- Visit the twilight zone. It should be using zone colouring now, instead of the checkerboard overlay it did in the past. You can get to the twilight zone by either doing the mithril cloak task, or teleporting to "Lda".
- Visit the basement of Eonna's house (int_semos_storage_-1). It should be otherwise dark, but the lamps on the ground should be lit. Is the zone playable, or does it make the game slow? (Check the position where all 4 lamps are visible on the screen; that should be the heaviest to draw)
Zone danger
- The client should show up to 5 skull images below the map. The amount should depend on how dangerous the zone can be to a player of your level. There should be no skulls only on zones that are not a challenge at all. Conversely 5 skulls means you probably should not stay in that area. (This does not mean that it should be impossible, or always unreasonable. The balrog for instance, is behind a magical barrier, but his presence makes the whole zone considered dangerous).

- Follow her instructions and dialogue, take care of sentences, sense, reward/effort-relation
- Try to repeat it although time didn't pass (shouldn't work)
- Try to confuse Crearid during the conversation (shouldn't respond to anything which has been said before etc.)
- Player vs Player attack - stops if either player moves into a protected area

Notes
- When you do each stage, read your console log.
- For quest testing: if you want to use an existing char, that has done most quests, you can reset all quests by saying cleanme! (with "!") to Diogenes.
- The test server log is here and can be useful to check if something strange happened (just scroll to the bottom for the latest entries)
Create chat log for tests
Please try to play dumb and fool the NPC by asking stupid question which may confuse him. For example say that you already have the items you are supposed to fetch although this is not true, yet. Reject the quest first time and only return later to accept it. Try to ask to start the quest again once it has finished, this kind of thing.
Please say Bye when you want to finish the conversation if the NPC is still listening.
