Support:Social Meeting 2011

Hello everyone :)

As though as the planning for the last summer social meeting 2010 was a bit stressful and just in time, I would like to suggest an earlier planning here to make sure that we find a place this time in which we can combine some sighseeing with fun and seing something from the region as well around the place where we will stay at :)

This page here can be used for writing some ideas around a possible next meeting down :) Discussions in #arianne-chat are allowed as well :D hehe

Frankfurt

  • Train (Huge train station in Frankfurt, smaller one in Wiesbaden)
  • Airport Frankfurt
  • Car - Autobahn

Freiburg

  • Train (Huge train station in Freiburg)
  • Airport Freiburg (need to check if Turku/Tampere and London will be in there)
  • Car - Autobahn

Cologne

  • Train (Huge train station in Cologne)
  • Airport Cologne/Bonn (need to check if Turku/Tampere will fly there - London flies, it's expensive but it does fly.)
  • Car - Autobahn

Ahrweiler

  • Airport then to Bonn (19 minutes by train, Vanessa would catch people from there)
  • Train
    • to Bonn central station (ICE for example from Hannover to Bonn)
    • Train from Bonn central station to Ahrweiler (around 35 minutes)

Time for the meeting

Dates

Please think about a date/time where you are available, because the time is running fast at the moment and reservations for so many people should be made in time :) (related to the ones who didn't comment up yet to it) - Thank you :) -

  • Somewhere in February/March/April ?
    • Vanessa: I'm personally "free" from februrary up to the first march weekend and up from the 22nd of March to the first of april (which isn't that a long time distance :( shitty term papers!!!)
    • Simon: I have to check again when I can get some free days. But the general date in february/march/april ist fine :) (other dates may be also okay if I can get some free days then)
    • Plassy has holidays from the 21.2. till 25.2. and 16.5. till 27.5.
    • Katie: Can't do the weekend with 6th Feb in it and probably not 18th-19th Feb. Have bank holidays 22 April (Good Friday); 25 April (Easter Monday); 29 April (Royal Wedding - a Friday) which means taking less time off work BUT would mean I have to book travel well, well in advance as otherwise it will be very expensive.
    • Vanessa (again :D): I have holidays around eastern from the 22. till 25. april. These two weeks around eastern are school holidays in Germany, so we have to book fast if we want to have the meeting in that time there :)

How long?

  • 3-4 days like in Hilchenbach? (would be thursday-sunday)
    • Simon: Yes, four days is nice in my view :) The last meeting wasn't too short and also not too long ;)
  • Over a weekend is necessary for most people who work normal mon-fri type jobs

  • Not many holiday appartments or holiday houses around --> Vanessa: Checked some of the main pages for such stuff, but just found the link below wich would take enough place for us all (there are around 10 people who will maybe join)

    • Vanessa visited that one already and it is really sweet and lovely there, two appartment, for 10 people at all
    • 2 apartments:
      • 1. 4 people, kitchen, big bathroom, double-couch in living room (quite comfortable), bedroom with a double bed
      • 2. 6 people, kitchen (big one), bathroom, bedroom with doublebed, one room with a double-couch, living room with double-couch

How much do they cost? Kymara is too english to try read the whole page.

The prices are the following ones:

  • 1. appartment "Zur Kastanie" (6 people) = 105€ /night
    • prices related to: 2 people = 65€/night
    • each more person + 10€
  • 2. appartment "Zur Remise" (4 people) = 79€ /night
    • prices related to: 2 people = 59€/night
    • each more person + 10€

If we are going to share the total costs of both together (which is maybe ok because we would all use the bigger appartment I bet), it would be:

184€ / night

If we stay from thursday till sunday (3 nights) it will be:

552€ at all, devided by for example 10 people (if all attendees come): 55,20€

I'll ask my cousin if she can maybe ask for a special price offer for us :P She has some good contacts sometimes :D (Vanessa)

Price ideas

  • Hilchenbach was about 96 euro / person excluded food which was around 40 euro
    • Price ok or too high?
      • Simon: The price was very nice in my view
      • Yeah fine by me Kymara
    • What is the tolerance area?
      • Simon: Hmm, the maximum for everything would be 200 Euro for me, I'd say...

Sightseeing

Talks?

  • Do we need talks like in Hannover last march?
    • If so: talk suggestions
    • or workshops, I.e. more practical and collaborative but still stendhal development as a focus
  • Personally I think some little focus might be fun even if just one day. Not necessarily formal talks as we may not have the equipment but perhaps some workshops would work well. Kymara

Evening Activities

  • What about visiting a nice bar or pub one evening?
  • Exploring the city
  • barbecue? --> maybe not the right time of a year for having a barbecue, definetly related to weather and location
  • If we're in a rural location we could bring a ball or something and play some outdoor games .. that would have been cool in hilchenbach

inside

  • Playing really funny games like Bingo, Pairs or Guess what I am? :D
  • cooking together?
  • watching a film

Frankfurt

  • Maybe driving to Frankfurt one day and explore the city there (appr. 25 minutes away)
