: Currently, your progress is saved on log out, rather than incrementally while you play. Server crashes where the players aren't logged out 'cleanly' are rare - there should not often be loss of data. However it's worth re-logging every so often if you want to save a day's progress. It's also kinder on your computer than having long java sessions.
